About Us

Our first labrador Treherne Yewberry,  bred by the late Joan Harvey (Treherne), was bought for work in 1975.  He proved to be an excellent dog and even though we made many mistakes with his training he eventually became a very successful competition dog, his best award being 3rd in a two day open field trial.  By this time I had become interested in the Dual Purpose Labrador, a major influence being Mary Roslyn Williams, and was showing a bitch called Everace Classic Lady.  Yewberry's full sister by a repeat mating (FT CH Spudtamsons Berry of Mirstan X Treherne Fantasy) was mated to Ch Squire of Ballyduff and a daughter Buttsash Pollyflinders of Leospring became our main foundation bitch.  In 1999, having nearly lost the Yewberry/Classic Lady line,   Oakingham Monarch of Leospring (who goes back to both these dogs and Pollyflinders) arrived.  He won an all aged Field Trial and awards in two day and one day open stakes and firsts in the Championship show ring.

Buttash Polly Flinders proved to be a good brood bitch.  Mated to Manymills Drake she produced the Field Trial winners Treherne Game Fall at Leospring and Treherne Fairly Game at Leospring.  To Pluto of Abbotsleigh she produced the two day open stake winner Leospring Mars Marine.  All these dogs also won awards in the Championship show ring.  A daughter of Game Fall mated to Ch Kupros Master Mariner produced Colhook Hutton of Leospring who had field trial awards and Breed Club open show Best of Breed (BOB) and Reserve BOB awards.  His grand-daughter Colhook Jazz of Leospring was a field trial and championship show winner.  Fairly Game produced the Field Trial winners Treherne Wideawake and Treherne Wizz Kidd and a Field trial Champion Grandson Deerbridge Alex.  Two sons of Lesopring Mars Marine, Leospring Marmaduke (sadly lost at 4 years old) were Field Trial winners and championship show winners.  Augustus Tuplady of Leospring (Paddy), was also a Field Trial and Championship Show winner,.when mated to Sh Ch Covetwood Elouise of Carpenny Augustus 'Paddy' produced Ch Carpenny Anchorman  who achieved Field Trial and Working Test awards including open test awards.  He was also BOB Crufts 2003. He has a Dual Champion daughter abroad. His son Carpenny Austin has sired UK and Irish Sh Ch Thurbagen's Saucey Safron at Eremos and her sister also has a CC.  His brother Carpenny Arnie of Leospring won Open working tests and had seven field trial awards.  Another son of "Paddy's" Southridge Ajax of Leospring won several firsts at Championship shows including Crufts and was Best in Show at an all gundog breed show whilst still a puppy.  A grandson Earl Harrow of Leospring (Harry) won at championship shows and has working test awards and the Working Gundog Certificate.  His son Cerbora Red Rhum of Leospring has championship Show awards as well as a Reserve Best Dog award at the Yellow LRC, the KC Working Gundog Certificate on game and  working test awards.  At least 2 other "Harry" children also have show and working awards.  Red's daughter Wynfaul Rosy glow is now a Show Champion.  Ajax's children Leospring Atomic Man and Leospring Atomic Power have Field Trial, championship show and working test awards   Anchor's son, out of Colhook Kalinker of Leospring, Leospring Ascot has championship show wins qualifying for Crufts several times, field trial awards and the KC Working Gundog Certificate on game and working test awards.  A Red Rum daughter Leospring Rapid Reaction did very well in the field with several working test wins or awards to her credit by just 2 years of age. Sadly, we had to have her speyed after her second litter so she went to a lovely new home but do have a daughter and son by her (Rich and Gili).  Leospring Diva is Ascot's half sister to FT Ch Mansengreen Diesel of Birdsgreen and she has won a novice field trial, open tests and open field trial awards. We now have her daughter Leospring Tay by FTW Quarnford Grouse of Ruffriver who has several field trial awards and won the Field Trial class at Crufts in 2018.  In 2010 we aquired our first chocolate Hurstmeon Wild Bill Hickoc at Leospring he won a second and a VHC at Crufts 2012 and 3rd in 2013 and now has his stud book number, working test awards and the working gundog certificate on game.  He shows good pace and nose and is easy to handle. We kept a daughter from him out of Leospring Rapid Reaction - Leospring Worth a Billion who mated to Seatallan Walnut produced our first home bred chocolates in a litter with all three colours.  Both the dog Leospring Binky Brown Nut (who lives with Chris's daughter) and the bitch Leospring Bunty Choconuts qualified for Crufts. Bunty has numerous firsts in the show ring, a working test award and the Kennel Club working certificate on game.  We now have Leospring Tiffin a black bitch out of Bunty sired by Dandy Amber Flap Jack (who goes back to some of the best Field Trial and Dual purpose breeding in the breed)  Rapid Reaction was also mated to Ch Warringah's Gundaroo JW who is also a working test winner and has his working gundog certificate on game.  We kept Leospring Gold Gili who has his stud book number in the ring and working test awards including 2nd in an intermediate test.  He achieved his working gundog certificate on game and guns choice at a novice field trial in 2015 as well as a first and second at Crufts and has won several limit classes. Ascot's sister Leospring Avenger Emma onwed by our long term friend Anne Tyrrell was mated to FT Ch Brindlebay Butler  and we aquired Colhook Teak at Leospring  He has qualified for Crufts via the show ring three times and is a working test winner and has his working gundog certificate on game.  He was mated to Warringah's Camira Creek of Briwed (who has Oakingham Monach of Leospring on her dam's side) and we now have Briwed Magic at Leospring who has a Field Trial award and Novice Test first as well as qualifying for Crufts via the show ring twice. Ascot's sister Leospring Aubrey was mated to Ch Naiken Zephyr and we have a son Zoom and daughter Zest.  Both are sensible lovely natured workers with good style.  Zest has show awards and has produced Leospring Magnet and Leospring Magnolia by "Magic" both of whom qualified for Crufts this year and have working test awards.

We are only a small kennel and in the past often continue our line through having a puppy back rather than a stud fee although recently we have kept more bitches to breed from.  Leospring dogs can be found in the pedigrees of many successful working and show labradors.  We make full use of the KC/BVA Hip, Elbow eye and Optigen, CNM &  EIC  SD2 and now HNHP DNA schemes and believe labradors should, most importantly, be versatile, good tempered healthy family companions and shooting dogs.

I have always had a passionate interest in animals and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1976 which later led to teaching veterinary nursing and animal care and obtaining an Education Degree and an MSc in Animal Behaviour.  I have had so much fun, interest and enjoyment from the dogs and have judged both working and show events in ten European countries as well as Kenya and Japan.  Chris and I  are both KC B panel field trial judges and I award Challenge Certificates in the UK and Chris is now qualified to judge at Championship show level. We have both judged the BASC classes at Crufts.

I was the Field Trial Secretary for the Kent Surrey and Sussex Labrador Club for 20 years and am currently their Vice Chairman, also Chairman of the Hampshire Gundog Society and a committee member of The Labrador Retriever Club.  I am a representitive on the Kennel Club Field Trial Liason Committee and one of the two KC Labrador Breed Health co-ordinators and Chairman of the Breed Council Health sub-committee.
